Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis has described the contribution of the tripartite cooperation schemes as important, noting that the aim is to deepen relations in key sectors and referred to the expansion of the cooperation, with the contribution of the USA in the framework of the “3+1” scheme. In statements in the coastal town of Pafos where he represented the government for the celebrations of Cyprus’ national anniversary of 1st April 1955, the Spokesman said that the contribution of the tripartite cooperation has proven in practice to be important “in terms of the planning that the Republic of Cyprus has done at regional level, but also at a wider level” in its foreign, bilateral and tripartite relations. The aim, he pointed out, is to deepen these close relations between the three countries, as the Foreign Ministers of Cyprus, Greece and Israel themselves stated on Friday during the press conference held after the tripartite meeting in Nicosia, but also “to expand it with the contribution and advice of the United States of America” in the context of the “3+1” scheme. Apart from the expansion of the scheme “at a theoretical level” the aim of the tripartite meetings is to deepen relations in critical areas in which the countries can cooperate as well as in the issue of the Eastern Mediterranean corridor, “which at the moment seems to have to be utilized according to the needs of the European Union itself”, he concluded.
