OTTAWA: Canada joined the United States today in imposing sanctions on four Israeli colonists involved in terrorist attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank.

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said that Canada will impose sanctions on Israeli colonists who incite violence in the West Bank.

On Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he was considering imposing sanctions on extremist colonists in the West Bank.

Trudeau said that Israeli colonists’ violence against Palestinians in the West Bank is “absolutely unacceptable and puts at risk peace and stability in the region and the path towards the two-state solution.”

On February 1, US President Joe Biden issued an executive order that targets Israeli colonists who have been involved in attacks and acts of violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The US will also impose financial sanctions and visa bans against four colonists involved in acts of violence in the West Bank.

At least 10 Palestinian civilians were k
illed by Israeli colonists’ fire during the year 2023.

Colonists’ terror attacks continue unabated against Palestinian towns and villages in the occupied West Bank, including setting fire to the homes, vehicles and property of citizens and destroying their crops.
