UAE President Engages in Strategic Dialogue with EU’s Von Der Leyen on Middle East Tensions

ABU DHABI: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in a phone conversation with Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, to discuss strategic relations between the United Arab Emirates and the European Union. The dialogue centered on enhancing bilateral ties and exploring opportunities for mutual benefit. According to Emirates News Agency, the discussion touched upon several pressing regional and international issues, with a focus on the Middle East's current challenges. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, alongside ensuring the protection of civilians under international law. They highlighted the necessity of facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected in these areas. The conversation also covered efforts to mitigate tensions in the region and prevent the escalation of conflicts that could jeopardize regional stability. The leaders advocated for a comprehensive and lasting peace solution, empha sizing the importance of the two-state solution as a foundation for enduring peace. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the UAE and the European Union, stressing the UAE's dedication to fostering relations that promote mutual development. He underscored the importance of Gulf-European cooperation and expressed the UAE's desire to expand trade, investment, and partnerships with other nations. In this dialogue, Sheikh Mohamed reiterated the UAE's commitment to collaborating with regional and international partners, including the European Union, to prevent conflict expansion in the Middle East and to deliver humanitarian aid. He acknowledged the EU's significant humanitarian efforts in the region. Ursula von der Leyen, in response, acknowledged the UAE's contributions towards regional stability and its humanitarian initiatives in Gaza and Lebanon. She praised the collaborative efforts between the UAE, the European Union, and its institutions across various sectors.
