Gaza City — As the conflict in Gaza nears its fourth week, United Nations agencies have underscored the increasing strain on hospitals in the region, particularly in northern Gaza.

According to Jordan News Agency, The Indonesian hospital in northern Gaza and the areas surrounding Al-Shifa and Al-Quds hospitals in Gaza City were targeted earlier this week. UNOCHA also reported that approximately 117,000 displaced individuals are currently being accommodated in the ten operational hospitals in Gaza City and other parts of the northern Strip. These hospitals have received repeated evacuation orders lately. The World Health Organization stated on its X account that evacuating these hospitals would endanger patients’ lives. UNOCHA emphasized that consistent aid, including urgently needed fuel for medical equipment and sanitation infrastructure, is critical for averting worsening humanitarian conditions. The United Nations Population Fund cited staff at Shifa Hospital saying emergency cesarean sections are being performed without anesthesia due to shortages. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) noted it continues to offer aid to over 600,000 people seeking refuge in its shelters. UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his gratitude and support for the humanitarian workers risking their lives in the region.
