UN official commends Kuwait’s women empowerment efforts

UN Executive Director of UN Women Sima Bahous lauded the efforts of the State of Kuwait to empower women and develop their rights in various areas.

Meeting with Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs, Community Development, State Minister for Women and Childhood Affairs Mai Al-Baghli, the UN official spoke highly of Kuwait’s effective participation in the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

For her part, the minister, speaking to KUNA following the meeting held late Thursday, said that ways of promoting cooperation between both sides in the fields of women’s empowerment and rights protection were discussed.

She added that they had underlined the significance of developing women’s status and fostering their participation in various sectors, along with the crucial role of women in sustainable development and peace-building.

Al-Baghli noted that they had also touched upon Kuwaiti women’s accomplishments in both public and private sectors, given that they are considered to be a considerable element of development in the country’s future development blueprint, known as New Kuwait 2035.
