UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting on the situation at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque

The United Nations Security Council is expected to hold an emergency closed session today, at the joint request of Palestine and Jordan, and with the support of the United Arab Emirates and China, to discuss Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City. This request comes after the brutal attack by the occupation forces on the Palestinian worshippers in Al-Qibli mosque yesterday and forcefully removing them from the holy compound to clear the way for the storming of Jewish fanatics marking the Passover holiday of the Muslim holy site. Since the beginning of this year, the Security Council held its monthly sessions on the Middle East conflict on time, but it also held emergency sessions and closed consultations due to the continuous Israeli violations in Jerusalem and its holy places, as well as the rise in Israeli settlement activities. The occupation forces stormed on Tuesday night, early Wednesday and last night the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound following the Ramadan night prayers, the Tarawih, and the dawn, al-Fajr, prayers, and brutally assaulted the worshipers in Al-Qibli mosque forcibly removing them from it, injuring and arresting hundreds of them to clear the area for the Jewish fanatics to storm the holy compound in the morning and perform Jewish Passover rituals in violation of the decades-long status quo that states the entire 114-dunum walled holy compound is a Muslim-only prayer area.
