UNICEF Representative in Egypt Jeremy Hopkins affirmed that “Shabab Balad” (Country’s Youth) initiative and “Meshwary” project aim to hone skills of youth in the country in networking, innovative thinking and decision-making as well as entrepreneurship and employment.
Hopkins said UNICEF and the Ministry of Youth and Sports constantly support the initiative and the project, which would mainly help youth play a greater role in serving their societies, easily reaching information and expanding their participation in all forums.
Hopkins’ remarks came in coincidence with celebrations marking World Youth Day, which annually falls on August 12, the UN News Center reported.
“Shabab Balad” initiative aims at empowering young people and building their skills through development programs targeting innovative thinking, decision-making and entrepreneurship skills. This comes in line with Egypt’s sustainable development goals for 2030 vision.
In addition, “Meshwary” project targets children and youth aged 10 to 24 years old, especially those who belong to the unprivileged social groups, and the program is being implemented in youth centers in 15 governorates representing Upper Egypt, Delta and border governorates.
In turn, Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy asserted that “Meshwary” is a most important program and seeks to vocationally prepare young people to handle life issues in general.
