The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned on Thursday that the situation in south Lebanon is very serious, calling for exercising restraint and averting further escalation.

“The current situation is extremely serious,” the UNIFIL said in a statement, urging restraint and to avoid further escalation.

“This afternoon there were multiple rocket launches from southern Lebanon toward Israel,” it said, adding that the Israeli army informed UNIFIL that it had activated its Iron Dome defense system in response.

Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Aroldo Lazaro is in contact with authorities on both sides of the Blue Line, according to the statement.
