UNRWA closely inspects the quake-damage in Lattakia

Lattakia, SANA- A delegation from The United Nations Relief and Works Agency inspected the damage affected by the earthquake in al-Raml al-Janoubi Palestine refugee camp in Lattakia, visiting shelters and meeting a number of those affected.

On behalf of UNRWA Commissioner-General, Ben Majekodunmi, UNRWA Chief of Staff in Amman visited Syria, stating to journalists that this visit came to inspect Palestine refugees’ conditions in the aftermath of the earthquake.

“The meeting with the Governor of Lattakia, Amer Hilal was fruitful and focused on supporting the refugee families who lost their loved ones and whose homes were damaged in addition to those in shelters.”Ben Majekodun said, adding that the meeting also focused on the work of committees to inspect the structural safety of residential buildings.

The Director of UNRWA Affairs Mr. Amanya Michael Ebye hailed the efforts of the Syrian government and the Governorate of Lattakia in addressing the aftermath of the earthquake to rapidly rescue the survivors and give hand to the affected families in the refugee camp.

Furthermore, Mr. Ebye referred to the coordination between the UNRWA office and the Syrian government, the Governorate of Lattakia, and Syria Trust for Development to provide the relief supplies to the families staying in the shelters.

“We ae looking forward to further cooperation with the Governorate of Lattakia to provide cash assistance and social and psychosocial support to Palestine refugees affected by the earthquake along with rehabilitating the affected facilities of UNERWA in Lattakia.” He added.
