US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman spoke Tuesday with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmad Attaf to congratulate him on his appointment.

She emphasized the importance of the US-Algeria relationship in addressing a wide range of shared challenges, Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said in a press release.

Deputy Secretary Sherman and Foreign Minister Attaf discussed efforts to foster stability in the region, including support for the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Moroccan Sahara Staffan de Mistura in advancing an enduring and dignified political solution to the conflict in the region, according to a statement.
