Steve Lutes, Vice President, Middle East Affairs, US Chamber of Commerce, has said that the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai is a ‘historic moment’, commending the UAE for the excellent level of preparation regarding the content, discussions, and logistics.

For the first time in COP history, the largest-ever delegation representing US business leaders is participating in the UAE, with around 90 American companies and over 150 business leaders, Lutes told to Emirates News Agency (WAM). He described it as the largest delegation ever representing all economic sectors – energy, finance, healthcare, transportation companies, and logistics services – to showcase technological solutions across the UAE.

He emphasised that the US Chamber of Commerce represents the American business community and has an enduring cooperation with counterparts in the Middle East. He also highlighted how the Climate Summit offered an avenue for innovative companies to showcase their business models and contribute to provid
ing solutions for climate change.

He elaborated that the ongoing negotiations were preceded by several preparatory visits, including last year’s COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in January. He highlighted the participation of a delegation comprising 75 representatives from green technology companies and over 100 business leaders in May last year to prepare for the current edition of COP.
