US stocks jumped at the opening bell on Wednesday with a rally in technology companies’ shares. The Dow added 225 points, or 0.7%, to 32,620 at 9.37 a.m. EDT. The S and P 500 rose 39 points, or 1% to 4,010. The Nasdaq also soared 159 points, or 1.36%, to 11,875 after the tech-heavy index lost 0.45% on Tuesday after trimming 0.47% the day before. Chip maker Intel, electric car manufacturer Tesla and e-commerce major Amazon saw their shares gaining more than 3% apiece. The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, shed 3.1% to 19.35, and the 10-year US Treasury yield was flat at 3.596%. The dollar index rose 0.3% to 102.73, while the euro lost 0.03% to $1.0838 against the greenback. Precious metals were in negative, with gold trimming 0.5% to $1,964 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.36% to $23.24. Crude oil prices gained around 1% with global benchmark Brent crude at $78.71 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $73.97.
