One person was shot dead during anti-government protests in Migori, Western Kenya on Monday as demonstrations against the high cost of living in Kenya entered their second week.

George Rae, the head of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital, confirmed the death to reporters, saying the wounded person was shot twice, in the leg and chest area.

‘He was brought to the hospital by police, and later pronounced dead,’ he said, adding that the person is yet to be identified.

The total number of people killed by police rises to three since the opposition protests kicked off last week on Monday.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people stormed and looted the farm of former President Uhuru Kenyatta during the protests.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga condemned the attack on the Northlands farm of the Kenyatta family and the stoning of his gas plant, the East African Spectre Limited, both of which were carried out on Monday by unknown intruders.

Human rights activists have raised concerns over police brutality in Kenya following the death of William Mayenga, a third-year student at Maseno University, who was shot in the neck during protests near the school last Monday.

The incidents have sparked renewed debate about police violence and the importance of protecting freedoms of assembly and expression in the country.

In the midst of the chaos between protesters and police, a police vehicle was set ablaze in the Kawangware neighborhood of Nairobi.

Authorities are yet to comment on the fatalities.
