DUBAI: Mohamed Jalal Alrayssi, Director-General of the Emirates News Agency (WAM) and President of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), chaired the meeting of the FANA’s Development Team, which was held on Tuesday in Dubai on the sidelines of the World Government Summit (WGS) 2024.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Fatima Al Salem, FANA Vice President and Director-General of the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA); Abdulla Buhejji, Director-General of Bahrain News Agency (BNA), and Dr. Farid Ayar, Secretary-General of FANA.

The meeting discussed ways to boost cooperation and coordination between FANA member news agencies and exchange experiences, knowledge and best practices to help develop the technical capabilities of their teams, as well as strategies for optimising the Federation’s operations and enhancing joint work.

Alrayssi said that the meeting is FANA’s first after its General Assembly meeting held in November 2023 during the 2nd edition of the Global Media Congress, which took place in Abu Dhabi. He
explained that the meeting served as a brainstorming session to exchange ideas and views on how to develop the Federation’s capabilities and boost its performance.

The FANA President added that the Federation seeks to improve the quality of services provided by Arab news agencies to their audiences in light of the fast-paced developments across the media and technology sectors, in addition to formulating new strategies to help those agencies keep pace with developments and challenges.

The Federation of Arab News Agencies comprises the national news agencies of 18 Arab countries and aims to strengthen ties between its member agencies, facilitate the exchange of news and ensure wider reach in both Arab countries and overseas, in addition to boosting the performance of its members through the exchange of experiences and advice and organising regular joint meetings.
