We need the synergy of people of culture, said the new Deputy Minister of Culture, Michalis Hadjiyiannis, during the handover ceremony of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, which took place on Wednesday in Nicosia.

The outgoing Deputy Minister, Yiannis Toumazis, expressed the certainty that the new Deputy Minister of Culture will roll up his sleeves and live up to the expectations of all those working in the culture industry both for their professional certification, which they have been waiting for decades, and for the upgrade of our total cultural product.

“Cyprus, a country with a culture of thousands of years, is entitled to it and deserves it,” concluded Toumazis, wishing success to Hadjiyiannis.

The new Deputy Minister of Culture, Michalis Hadjiyiannis, initially expressed his immense sadness for last night’s tragedy in Greece, adding that “our thoughts are with the families of the victims.”

Then, addressing the personnel of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, he expressed his appreciation for their work. He also thanked Yiannis Toumazis, who, as he said, “took the cornerstone and laid it in the foundations of the Deputy Ministry with an excellent and great work.”

“We should now continue building together with all the people of our country’s culture because we have both the will and the means. We know that culture is not interrupted, it has continuity”, pointed out the new Deputy Minister of Culture, who thanked the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, for entrusting him with the country’s culture.

“The millennia of our culture require dedication, respect, but also a modern perception in its preservation, promotion and development”, emphasised the new Deputy Minister of Culture, adding that “technological development has now reduced the distances to such an extent that a small country like Cyprus, with work and imagination, can become a permanent Biennale of culture that will be presented all over the world.”

At the same time, Michalis Hadjiyiannis underlined that for such expectations to come true, the will of a government alone is not enough. “We need the inspiration but also the synergy of the people of culture with their ideas, experiences and the light of their creation,” he said.
