Cairo: The Arab Parliament condemned the decision of some countries to stop funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) on the pretext of the involvement of a number of its employees in the October 7 operation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the parliament confirmed that this decision represents a capitulation to the systematic incitement policy of the Israeli occupation entity against UNRWA, as it is the main humanitarian agency for supplies in Gaza.
The Arab Parliament also stressed that the decision of these countries to temporarily suspend funding for the agency in these circumstances represents a humanitarian disaster that exacerbates the suffering of the Palestinian people, who are exposed to the most horrific images of genocide. The parliament described this decision as a new stain of shame on the forehead of international humanitarian work, a deliberate restriction to stop the delivery of relief assistance, and a warning of a multiplied humanitarian disaster a
t the present time.
The statement said that the suspension decision constitutes a flagrant challenge to the decision of the International Court of Justice issued on Friday, which ruled that it is necessary to allow humanitarian assistance to enter Gaza.
The Arab Parliament called on the countries that announced the suspension of their support for UNRWA to reverse their decision and urged the international community to continue and intensify the necessary assistance to UNRWA to enable it to continue providing its services in Gaza, where its people face famine and displacement. The parliament stressed that the desperate attempts of the Israeli occupation entity and the countries supporting it to cut off humanitarian supplies will not undermine the steadfastness and determination of the Palestinian people to remain on their land.
