Baghdad, The head of the Yazidi bloc in Parliament, Nayef Khalaf Sido, stressed the importance of the current election law to the general situation in the country.
He said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA /: “The current election law, according to the multiple constituencies, opened the way wide for political figures and blocs to prove their existence, after the matter was confined to blocs and personalities belonging to this or that party.”
Sido added, “The large blocs, especially those that did not achieve what they aspired for during the recent elections, are trying to restore the previous electoral system, the Saint- Lego through the single constituency, in order to return to control and prevent independents and small blocs from ascending and establishing existence.”
During the recent period, clear differences emerged between various personalities and political blocs over the reinstatement of the Saint-Lego law in the upcoming elections, between welcome and rejection, especially by independents and emerging political forces.
Today, the security forces blocked al-Jumhuriya Bridge, in central Baghdad, and the roads leading to the parliament building from Karada Maryam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, coinciding with preparations for the launch of a mass demonstration rejecting the amendment of the election law.
