The Yemeni Economic Reforms Team on Thursday held a meeting in Amman with representatives of development-related international institutions, during which it launched its vision for an economic path that achieves sustainable peace in Yemen. The Yemeni Economic Reforms Team is a voluntary initiative of leaders of the private sector in Yemen and economic experts that aims to enhance and empower the private sector participation, contribute in a unified and effective way to decision-making, and participate in setting strategies to promote economic reforms and stimulate economic growth in Yemen. Under its vision, the team called for an urgent and comprehensive economic truce, which represents an important step to build confidence in achieving sustainable peace in Yemen, including stopping decisions, laws and measures that exacerbate the economic division taking place in the country, as well as practices that represent interference in the affairs of the private sector and its organizations, removing restrictions on the flow of goods between governorates, canceling illegal levies and fees, and neutralizing the private sector and not dragging it into the conflict. “The vision stems from the private sector’s constant keenness to distance itself from the conflict taking place in the country, and its continuation to provide goods and services to citizens in all regions, and in light of Yemen difficult economic and humanitarian conditions,” a team statement said. The statement added that the private sector suffers from the economic division and many decisions and procedures that have doubled the level of challenges facing the Yemeni national capital. The vision launched by the team included proposals for reforms in monetary policy through a unified technical committee to consolidate monetary policy, open main roads between Yemeni cities, cancel decisions to prevent the flow of goods between cities, enable imports from all Yemeni ports, facilitate the arrival of goods, open airports, and cancel all restrictions imposed on the private sector in movement and its workers. The Economic Reforms Team held its annual strategic meeting, in partnership with the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), with the aim of discussing the team’s vision for an economic path that achieves sustainable peace in Yemen and steps to build confidence in the economic aspect, in addition to developing the team’s strategic plan to enable the private sector and increase its participation in policy-making and decision-making related to economic affairs, in a way that contributes to restoring economic recovery and sustainable development.
