Youth Empowerment Project in Zarqa Concludes, Emphasizing Grassroots Governance

Zarqa: The We Participate Center for Civil Society Development, in partnership with the Heinrich Böll Foundation, has concluded a significant project titled "From Local to National: Empowering Youth Towards Sustainable Local Administration." The initiative aimed to bolster youth and civil society engagement in local development decision-making processes. According to Jordan News Agency, Nidal Abu Arabi, Secretary General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Local Administration, underscored the essential role of sustainable local governance beginning at the grassroots level, with youth as a pivotal force. He highlighted the necessity of endowing young people with leadership and administrative skills, viewing it as a national imperative for achieving sustainable governance. Abu Arabi reiterated the ministry's dedication to supporting youth initiatives through comprehensive training programs and resource allocation, enabling young leaders to assume active roles in local administration. M ahmoud AlSbaihat, Director General of the We Participate Center, pointed out that the project aligns with royal directives advocating for legislative reforms in local administration. He emphasized the need for strong governance foundations, in sync with political modernization, to facilitate effective citizen participation in shaping their future. The closing ceremony of the project also featured a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing citizen participation in local governance through digital platforms. The project sought to develop a legislative framework to improve the efficacy of municipal and local councils, addressing the aspirations and developmental needs of the community. The initiative included two workshops dedicated to training participants in research and analytical tools, ensuring effective management of future projects.
