Amman: The Royal Scientific Society (RSS), in partnership with Guidehouse Germany GmbH, kicked off the third phase of the Build_ME project: Accelerating 0-emission building sector ambitions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The launching ceremony was attended by representatives of ministries, banks, local and international financing institutions, energy specialists, contractors, and Jordanian universities, according to an RSS statement.
The project’s first phase began in 2016 and focused on understanding the market and the main barriers to the uptake of highly efficient buildings in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon.
The second phase of BUILD_ME centered on developing different tools to close these gaps, such as benchmarks, building energy performance (BEP) calculation tools, and demonstration project databases and training national trainers on such devices.
During the current third phase, these new instruments will be used to facilitate the financing of energy-efficient building projects.
At the ceremony, Build_ME project manager Riadh Bhar introduced the objectives of the third phase of the project, with a recap on phases one and two, and presented the (Building Energy Performance Tool), which was developed during the second phase of the project and will be applied during the third.
RSS and Guidehouse launched a national dialogue with all stakeholders to discuss mechanisms and tools that would facilitate access to local and international financing channels to provide financial support for energy-efficient buildings.
The Royal Scientific Society is implementing the Build_ME project in partnership with Guidehouse and with the support of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
