UN official meets high-profile officials in Lebanon

New York: Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Thursday received United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, prior to her next briefing to the UN Security Council, which is holding a consultation session on March 16 to discuss Report No. 1701. and the situation in Lebanon.

 

Wronecka said that she discussed with Mikati the implementation of Resolution 1701, as well as the importance of achieving the main constitutional deadlines, starting with electing a president and holding municipal elections on time.

 

Wronecka also met with the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan, on ways to face challenges and efforts to improve the situation in Lebanon at all levels.

 

The UN official said that she met with Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, and they agreed on the need to consolidate unity and prioritize national interests in any future solution.
