Minister of Interior Mazen Faraya Monday discussed during a meeting with Canadian Ambassador Tarik Khan Jordanian-Canadian relations and prospects of further enhancing bilateral cooperation. Faraya stressed the importance of developing relations in the economic and political fields “in a manner to achieve the two countries’ interests”, commending Canada’s support to Jordan’s reform and development programs and projects. Jordan’s efforts to deal with the refugee crisis had in many times outweighed the Kingdom’s capabilities and sapped its resources due to the large number of Syrian refugees, the minister said, adding that the refugees needed more support from world nations and concerned organizations. Faraya called on the international community to focus on local communities that hosted refugees and shared with them health and education resources and services, through launching productive projects to ease the burden on these communities and enable them to carry out their humanitarian role. For his part, the Canadian envoy reaffirmed his country’s keen interest to bolster relations with Jordan, hailing the Kingdom’s political and economic reforms and its hosting of Syrian refugees despite the economic hardship the Kingdom faces.
