Illegal Israeli settlers set up tents today on Palestinian-owned lands outside the town of Deir Ballut in the occupied West Bank province of Salfit, according to local sources. Samir Nemr, the mayor of the town, told WAFA that dozens of Israeli settlers set up tents and raised Israeli flags and banners bearing racist slogans on lands belonging to Palestinians from the neighboring village of Al-Lubban Al-Gharbi. Nemr expressed his fear that the latest move could be a prelude for the establishment of a new Israeli settlement outpost in the area. Of note, all kinds of colonial Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories are illegal in international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention which expressly bans the relocation of the occupying nation’s civilian population to the land of the occupied.
