Bsharre commemorated today its fallen sons, Haitham and Malik Tawq, in a Mass service presided over by Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi, in the Church of Saint Saba, in the presence of Caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Al-Makary, MPs Strida Geagea, William Tawq, Tony Franjieh, and Michel Douaihy, and a number of prominent dignitaries and officials representing main political parties in the country.

After the Holy Gospel, Patriarch Al-Rahi delivered a sermon in which he eulogized the fallen martyrs, saying: ‘We gather to commemorate the martyrs of Qornet Al-Sawda, our dear Malik Tawk Tawk and Haitham Jamil al-Hindi Tawk, whose blood was shed on the 2nd of last July, in order to preserve the ancestral land, which the dear people of Bsharre considered to be the property of their town according to the usual norm, generation after generation…We gather to offer this divine sacrifice for the comfort of their souls in the heavenly kingdom, and for the consolation of their families. This memory comes on the feast of the Assumption of our Mother, the Virgin Mary, with her soul and body, to heaven, while believers, men and women, in all churches of the earth, are praying….’

The Patriarch asked for the Lord’s mercy to liberate Lebanon’s justice and judiciary ‘from the interference of politicians and influential people, from giving it a sectarian or doctrinal color, and from obstructing its practice with illogical, illegal, or unrealistic formal responses.’

He said: ‘We only resort to the justice of the law and the judicial authority in the state…a judicial justice that is free from any political interference and any religious, sectarian, or confessional facet is the backbone in the life of the state and the preservation of the rights and duties of citizens.’

‘Based on these principles, in which the justice emanating from God is manifested, we call on the municipalities concerned with Qornet Al-Sawda to respond, with the legal and historical documents they have, to the real estate investigation judge in the North in everything related to the identification and liberation processes,’ the Patriarch went on, stressing that ‘no one has the right to obstruct these processes or slow down their implementation, in order to avoid disputes, violations and aggressions that lead to disastrous results.’
