Amman: The working group for managing and following up on the container crisis in Red Sea called on Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) to grant incentives to the marine routes that continued to serve Aqaba port despite the maritime standoff in the Red Sea to support the national economy.
The working group brings under its umbrella Jordan and Amman commerce chambers, Jordan Navigation Syndicate (JNS) , and the Jordanian Logistics Association (JLA).
During the meeting held Sunday at the headquarters of Jordan Chamber of Commerce, the team said a letter should be sent to Aqaba Container Terminal to grant exemptions from storage fees to shipping providers and cargo owners of empty containers prepared for export, or find appropriate solutions to this problem.
The team also urged shipping providers to give priority to the Kingdom’s “key and vital” sectors and speed up loading of their goods, especially foodstuffs and drugs and send letters to shipping companies in this regard.
Additionally, the team reviewed data i
ssued by the Kingdom’s competent authorities on the number of containers docking at the Aqaba port.
According to official statistics, 19,582 containers docked from beginning of this month until last Thursday, while the number is expected to reach about 22,520 containers by end of current January, showing that 5,500 vehicles arrived at Aqaba terminals from the beginning of this month until Sunday.
