House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday welcomed at the Second Presidency in Ain el-Tineh, the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in the presence of Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, and Ambassador Abdel Rahman Al-Solh. Discussions reportedly touched on the current general situation in Lebanon and the region, in addition to the latest political developments. On the other hand, Speaker Berri received a delegation of civil defense volunteers, headed by Brigadier General Raymond Khattar, in the presence of Amal Movement’s Municipal and Mayoral Affairs Central Bureau Chief, Bassam Tlais. Discussions reportedly touched on the conditions and needs of the Lebanese Civil Defense, especially the righteous demands of volunteers. Berri highlighted before the delegation that the country needs the spirituality and human morality embodied by civil defense volunteers in order to overcome the current abhorrent sectarian predicaments. The Speaker made the necessary contacts with the concerned authorities in this regard. Berri also received Deputy Head of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council, Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib.
