CBE: 36.8 million citizens, including 16 million women, have bank accounts

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said that 36.8 million citizens, including 16 million women, have bank accounts, a matter that backs the achievement of sustainable growth and economic stability.

In a statement on Tuesday, the CBE said that the indicators showed a significant increase in financial inclusion rates in the past six years, achieving a growth rate of 115%, bringing the total number of citizens, who have accounts that enable them to conduct financial transactions – which include accounts in banks, Egypt Post, mobile e-wallets or prepaid cards, to 36.8 million citizens, which is equivalent to 56% of the total number of citizens aged 16 and above.

In terms of women’s financial inclusion, indicators showed an increase in the number of women, who have bank accounts, reaching 16 million women at the end of 2021, with a growth rate of 171% compared to 2016, the statement added.
