DUBAI: Senator Shantal Munro-Knight, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister of Barbados, responsible for Sustainable Development, said that COP28 was exceptional, especially for its practical approach and focus on achieving tangible results.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during COP28, she said that one of the most important results of COP28 is the operationalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund.

Speaking about the operationalisation of the Fund, Senator Shantal said, ‘That is extremely important, particularly for small island developing states.’

Senator Munro-Knight added that these states are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and they need significant support to adapt to the changing climate.

The activation of the Fund is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to ensure that these states have the resources they need to address the challenges of climate change.
