Donbass, a number of the liberated territories start vote on joining Russia

Moscow, SANA- Residents of the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk (DPR and LPR), as well as the liberated territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, will cast their ballots in referendums on accession to Russia between September 23 and 27.

For security reasons, voting will take place during the first four days from homes, where electoral commissions carry ballot boxes and roam residential neighborhoods and homes to collect citizens’ votes, in order to ensure the safety of citizens and avoid their crowding at centers so that their gatherings do not target by the Ukrainian forces, and on the last day, the voting will take place at the polling stations, according to RT.

To guarantee the rights of refugees from Donbass and liberated areas in the Russian territory, polling stations were set up in the provinces and regions in eastern Russia and opened their doors to receive refugees and vote from the morning hours, RT noted.

In a press statement, head of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) Leonid Pasechnik said, “the people of the republic had been looking forward to the referendum since the conflict broke out in the region in 2014. “It has been the dream that we share, it has been our common future. And now it is about to be put into practice.”
