RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 (WAFA) – Dozens of patients dawn Wednesday suffocated as Israeli forces targeted Palestine Medical Complex in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, according to eyewitnesses. A convoy of army vehicles stormed Qaddura refugee camp, adjacent to the medical complex, where the soldiers broke into the family house of a prisoner who has been behind in Israeli bars for two weeks, and conducted a thorough search. During the confrontations that unfolded, the heavily-armed soldiers opening fire towards local youths attempting to block their entry, and aimed their volleys of tear gas canisters towards the hospital. The tear gas spread through the cardiology and cardiothoracic ward as well as through the pediatric ward, causing dozens to suffocate and spreading panic among patients and their families. Meanwhile, Health Minister Mai al-Kaila called on international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to take urgent action to rein in increasing Israeli racist attacks against Palestinian medical centers as well as against health professionals and ambulance crews. She also called on ICRC and foreign diplomatic corps to make an urgent visit to the medical complex to see first-hand the reality of what happened.
