Minister of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha Gendy received on Monday European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Shinas and his accompanying delegation.

According to statement released by her ministry, Gendy reviewed with Shinas efforts exerted by the Egyptian state to face illegal migration and the Egyptian migration policy.

They also discussed future cooperation in the migration file, means to provide job opportunities for youth inside and outside Egypt and fulfill the goals of sustainable development.

The meeting dealt with the achievements made in implementing the presidential initiative “Survival Boats” to curb the risks of illegal migration in 14 governorates that send illegal migrants and how to provide jobs and vocational training for Egyptian workers.

She hailed cooperation with the German side through the Egyptian-German center for employment, migration and reintegration in the field of illegal migration.

The minister also hailed cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, the EU and other partners through THAMM program as part for governance skills and training to find appropriate jobs for youth.

For his part, the EU official praised Egypt’s strenuous efforts to fight illegal migration.
