The “Smart Nicosia” project of the Nicosia Municipality, which was carried out in cooperation with Nokia and CYTA, has won first place in Europe among 100 nominations from the European Green Digital Coalition initiative, which evaluated the best “smart green solutions”.

According to a statement by the Nicosia Municipality on Friday, the European initiative explores ways in which major technology companies can contribute to reducing the planet’s environmental footprint, and the Nicosia case study was posted on the European Green Digital Coalition website, following months of evaluation and data analysis of the project through UK-based Carbo Trust, a specialist in climate change data analysis.

It is noted that the main objective of the Smart Nicosia project is to develop and use new technological tools that will improve the management and functionality of the urban environment in the city of Nicosia and in this direction the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) digital activation platform increases productivity, efficiency and growth through the automated use of digital operational technology elements and capabilities, as among other functions it also provides information on the emptying of waste bins and traffic information using video analytics to reduce overall transport emissions and pollution levels.
