Abu dhabi: Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has entered into a strategic Collaboration Framework Agreement (CFA) with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC - Masdar, a global leader in clean energy. The agreement is set to accelerate the deployment of utility-scale renewable energy projects to diversify the UAE's energy mix, enhance supply security, and support local industrial growth.
According to Emirates News Agency, the CFA was signed by Ahmed Ali Alshamsi, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC, and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar. It aims to streamline Masdar's involvement in EWEC's renewable energy projects, from early-stage development through to financial closure. The partnership builds on the successful collaboration between EWEC and Masdar on projects like Al Dhafra Solar PV and the gigascale 'round-the-clock' solar and battery storage project.
Ahmed Ali Alshamsi, CEO of EWEC, emphasized the importance of the agreement, stating that it is a strategic tool to accelerate the UAE's energy transformation, aiming to meet 60 percent of Abu Dhabi's total energy demand from renewable sources by 2035. The framework is expected to facilitate the development of over 30GW of solar PV capacity and integrate more than 8GW of battery energy storage, ensuring long-term energy supply security.
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, highlighted that the agreement strengthens their collaboration with EWEC and supports the advancement of the UAE's energy transformation. The partnership aims to accelerate solutions like the gigascale Round-the-Clock solar project and diversify the UAE's energy mix while ensuring reliable and affordable clean power for local industries.
The agreement aligns with the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy's Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035 for electricity production and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. Through strategic planning and partnerships, EWEC is committed to transforming the water and power sector, aiming for nearly emissions-free water production by 2030 and meeting 60 percent of Abu Dhabi's energy demand through renewable and clean sources by 2035.
