Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, is maintaining intensive contacts with regional and international counterparts to discuss launching immediate international action to stop the escalation in Gaza and its surroundings, protect the region from the consequences of a new spiral of violence, create a real political horizon to end the occupation and stop all measures that fuel tension and undermine the chances of achieving a two-state solution, which constitutes the only way to achieve just and comprehensive peace and ensure security and stability for all.

In his calls, Safadi said that the continued violence and escalation will only lead to worse, and will have major repercussions on the region, especially in light of the continuing deterioration in the Palestinian territories and the absence of any real political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace, stressing the need for self-restraint, the protection of civilians and respect for international humanitarian law.

Safadi’s calls included discussions
with Qatar Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Egypt Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh. Shoukry, Morocco Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein Al-Sheikh.

The Foreign Minister also contacted a number of European foreign ministers, including the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and Spain Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albarez, whose country presides over the EU current session, France Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, and Norway Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anniken Huitfeldt.

Tonight and tomorrow, Safadi will continue international and regional contacts to discuss ways to launch international action to stop escalation and violence of all kinds.

Ea
rlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stressed the need to stop the dangerous escalation in Gaza and its environs and warned of the dangerous repercussions of this escalation, especially in light of what cities and regions in the West Bank are witnessing: Israeli attacks and violations against the Palestinian people and Islamic and Christian sanctities as well as depriving the Palestinian people of their rights.

The Ministry, in a statement, warned of the consequences of this escalation on efforts to achieve comprehensive calm. It stressed the importance of restraint, protection of civilians, and adherence to international humanitarian law.

The Ministry emphasized that the escalation of violence in all its forms and continued escalation will lead to worse outcomes and will negatively impact everyone. It stressed the need for a real political horizon to achieve peace based on a two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions. This solution would end the occupation
and establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the lines of June 4, 1967, allowing it to live in security and peace alongside Israel.

The Ministry urged a halt to Israeli measures that perpetuate the occupation and reduce the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace. This, it stated, is the only way to halt the deterioration and ensure security for all.
