Firefighters brought under control a huge fire that broke out in the middle of the Jara henna souk in Gabès on Thursday.

The devastating fire engulfed numerous stalls in the market and consumed fast-burning products such as palm leaves, wool, henna and others.

Eyewitnesses suggested that an electrical short circuit in one of the market’s stalls was the cause of the fire, which spread to neighbouring bazaars before civil protection officials intervened to contain the blaze.

As a reminder, the Jara Henna Souk caught fire on 2 May 2022, when 25 stalls were set ablaze.

Recently, several of the market’s traders have taken the initiative to renovate their shops and resume their activities.
