Germany confirmed Tuesday the arrival of 18 (Leopard) heavy combat tanks in Ukraine.
In a statement, the Federal Ministry of Defense said that the new military aid package, includes 18 tanks (Leopard 2A6), two armored vehicles (Pauvel) and 40 copies of the (Marder) armored vehicle, fulfilling the German’s commitments” in supporting the Ukrainian forces.
The statement quoted the Defense Minister Boris Pistorius saying that ” the tanks arrived on the agreed time for our Ukrainian friends”.
The minister expressed his confidence in the ability of these tanks to make a difference on the battlefield, saying that he was “sure of their capabilities to achieve achievements” in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The German-made Leopard tank is one of the best heavy combat tanks in the world that the Ukrainian army insisted on obtaining them.
Last January Germany agreed to provide Ukraine with these tanks after long discussions with the Americans and the French allies.
