New Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Philippos Hadjizacharias, said on Wednesday that the goal is to make Cyprus a leader in technological developments.

Speaking at the handover-takeover ceremony during which received his portfolio from outgoing Deputy Minister Kyriacos Kokkinos, he assured President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, who, as he said, entrusted him with such an important portfolio for the technological development of the country, that he will do his utmost to meet his expectations.

We will do our best to carry out the mission of the Deputy Ministry and the implementation of the goals set in the election programme of the new President, he said.

He noted that due to the rapid technological developments and the challenges at global level we must bring Cyprus to a competitive level in terms of research, innovation and transition to e-government.

Our goal is to make Cyprus a leader in technological developments by giving power to research and innovation, he stressed.

In his statements, Kokkinos said that he is handing over the Deputy Ministry to a worthy successor, noting that the journey of digital transformation and innovation is one that has a beginning but no end.

He recalled that the Deputy Ministry was established exactly three years ago, saying that it started from scratch and under difficult circumstances.

He expressed certainty that with the leadership of the new Deputy Minister they will be able to complete the work and achieve even more.
