House of Representatives Speaker Hanafy Gebali asserted that the Egyptian State has made several strides on various fronts to entrench the concept of citizenship to beef up ties among various categories of the society.

The speaker’s remarks were made during his participation with a high-level parliamentary delegation in the 146th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its relevant meetings, which are currently convening in Bahrain.

Addressing the gathering, Gebali reviewed the Egyptian vision for enhancing peaceful coexistence, noting that the Egyptian state has worked on supporting religious freedoms through the Egyptian constitution, a matter which was reflected on efforts to renew and restore many worshipping places on equal footing.

He also highlighted Al Azhar’s signing of the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together with the Pope of the Vatican to be a strong evidence on Egypt’s honest and promising vision to go beyond the national concept to a wider understanding of a world characterized with humanity, fraternity and peaceful coexistence.

Gebali also shed light on the State’s efforts to fight extremism which is a real threat to peaceful coexistence through renewing the religious discourse.

Concluding his word, Gebali sent a message of peace from Egypt to the world, asserting that the world is passing through a serious juncture in view of the successive global crises which pressed the need for more peaceful coexistence and opting for dialogue and respect to the other.
