Baghdad, Independent MPs announced that they collected more than 70 signatures of members of the House of Representatives to withdraw the proposal to amend the provincial elections law from the agenda.

“We strongly object to the new amendments of the Provincial Council Elections Law, which are not consistent with the aspirations of the Iraqi people seeking change,” said the head of the Ishraqat Kanoon bloc, independent MP, Haider Al-Mutairi, in a joint press conference today, Thursday.

He added, “The proposal for the provincial elections law enshrines the continuity and survival of power in the hands of one party and not others, and circumvents the votes of Iraqi voters,” noting that “the process of merging the elections of the House of Representatives with the provincial councils is unjustified and has no justification.”

It is mentioned that the independent MPs announced their boycott of the House of Representatives session scheduled to be held today, Thursday, in protest against the inclusion of a proposal to amend the Provincial Councils Law in the agenda.
