Prime Minister Narendra Modi says thanks to the wise and successful leadership of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, cooperation with Egypt has become stronger over the past few years.

Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Egyptian President Sisi earlier Wednesday, Modi said Egypt is the guest of honor in the G20 Summit, which is chaired and hosted by India.

He told reporters that relations and trade exchange with Egypt have been lasting over thousands of years despite global changes.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said strategic coordination with Egypt is good for peace and prosperity in the whole region.

He said his talks with Sisi earlier in the day focused on upgrading the level of strategic partnership between Cairo and New Delhi, noting that a long-term and more-inclusive development plan would be designed with the aim of enhancing political, defense, economic and scientific cooperation.

The meeting took up the files of healthcare and global supply chains, Modi told the reporters.

The Indian premier said he particularly discussed with Presdient Sisi how to amend food import chains and the drug industry that were most harmed by the Ukrainian crisis.

Modi said they also accentuated the importance of increasing investment and trade exchange in these sectors.

It was decided that the volume of trade exchange between India and Egypt be upped to an annual of 12 billion dollars during the coming five years, Modi added
