Int’l cooperation, envi. ministers follow up on coordinating efforts in preparation for COP27

Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat and Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad discussed on Sunday 30/10/2022 coordinating joint action between the two ministries in preparation for the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC) COP27, in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh in November.

During the meeting, the two sides took up the latest developments pertaining to ongoing discussions with multilateral and bilateral development partners, in addition to world parties concerned with international climate finance, regarding participation in projects included in the Digital Egypt Platform, especially details on projects floated as part of Egypt’s Initiative for Smart Green Projects “Nouwfi” that would be announced during COP27.

The electronics service platform ” Digital Egypt ” was launched in coordination between the two ministries, along with other development partners in July, in line with the prime minister’s directives.

“Nouwfi” program for financing and investing in climate projects in the water, food and energy sectors, was on the first list of eco-friendly projects within the National Climate Change Strategy 2050 and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Egypt’s Initiative for Smart Green Projects “Nouwfi” represents sincere efforts and reflects the combined work of related ministries and all governorates to face climate change in a holistic approach that aims to achieve all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Meantime, the two ministers tackled ongoing preparations for ‘Sharm El-Sheikh Guide to Fair Finance’, in light of Egypt’s preparations for COP27 to forge an international framework for climate action that can be implemented in developing countries and emerging markets to lure more investments in adaptation projects.

The guide lays down a clear mechanism for regional and international development partners, institutions, banks, and think tanks, with a view to generating climate finance funds, along with providing essential packages for developing countries, as well as emerging markets and startups operating in the climate technology domain.
