Iraqi army issues statement on commitment to protecting diplomatic missions

Iraqi military sources said Saturday that the Iraqi authorities are taking measures to protect diplomatic missions in Baghdad. The spokesman of the Iraqi Armed Forces stated that the Iraqi forces are “committed to protecting all public and private property and diplomatic missions that are present on Iraqi soil within the law and the constitution.” He added, “We have taken all measures to protect all diplomatic missions operating in Iraq in line with the Vienna Treaty, to which Iraq is a signatory.” The Iraqi authorities had prevented protesters from storming the Danish embassy in Baghdad to protest against extremists burning the Quran and the Iraqi flag.
