AMMAN: Jordan has chaired the first meeting of the Pan-Arab Clean Energy Initiative (PACE) Committee on Minerals used in clean energy technologies. The meeting, attended by representatives from nine member states and the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining, focused on the role of minerals in the energy transition.
According to Jordan News Agency, Director of Planning and Institutional Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and chairperson of the meeting, highlighted the Arab region’s significant mining potential. She noted that Arab cooperation through PACE is crucial in aligning with global sustainability trends and enhancing the role of minerals in the energy transition. According to an International Energy Agency report cited by Ghani, there is an expected surge in demand for key minerals like lithium, graphite, cobalt, nickel, manganese, and rare earth elements, essential for clean energy technologies. The meeting also discussed strategies for identifying minerals used in clean energy, building Arab capabilities, and promoting mining investment opportunities, emphasizing the growing demand for metals used in solar and wind energy technologies.
