Amman: Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan Muhammad Nasri bin Abdul Rahman Wednesday said, “Jordan is Malaysia’s most important trade and economic partner in the region.”
After receiving credentials as an ambassador to Jordan, bin Abdul Rahman told journalists at a conference noted that trade between Malaysia and Jordan recorded $53.6 million, with a growth of 152.9 per cent in 2022, compared to the corresponding period of 2021.
He said the relations between Malaysia and Jordan are witnessing “great” development, adding that the ties between the two countries are “solid” since their establishment in 1965.
“As Jordan is working on modernising the economy and public sector, there is vast potential for both countries to cooperate in various areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, Islamic banking and finance, health, tourism, higher education, defence and people-to-people ties,” he added.
He added, “Malaysia also looks forward to further increasing its export of agro-commodity and commodity-based products, especially palm oil and palm-based products to Jordan.”
In terms of higher education, the Malaysian ambassador said in 2022, there were 1,387 Malaysians in Jordanian universities as opposed to 616 Jordanians in Malaysian universities in 2022.
