The Jordan Labor Watch, an affiliate of the Phenix Center for Economic and Informatics Studies, on Tuesday called for improving the working conditions for women in the private sector in terms of both policies and on the ground approach to enhance their overall economic participation.

In a position paper issued on International Women’s Day, the watchdog stressed the importance of empowering women working in Jordan in the organized and unorganized sectors to enjoy their rights, in addition to basic principles of labor and proper work standards.

The paper also indicated that women’s economic participation rate in Jordan has been fixed over the past ten years, reaching 14 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to 53.6 percent for males during the same year.

The watchdog also recommended reviewing the various strategies and programs aimed at enhancing women’s economic role and labor market participation in the relevant government institutions and civil society institutions.

On supporting stay-at-home women’s businesses, the paper called for creating an entity to run, direct, support, and enhance women’s skills to develop their projects and push forward their economic participation.

On public transport, the paper recommended enhancing the public transport system to meet the needs of women so that they can go to their workplaces easily and safely.
