Morocco, chair of the current session of the Arab League’s Council of Foreign Ministers, called for an emergency meeting to consult and coordinate on the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip and military actions targeting civilians to go over ways to put an end to “this dangerous escalation.”According to a statement by the Moroccan embassy in Amman on Sunday, this request came on the instructions of King Mohammed VI of Morocco.The embassy added that intensive consultations are underway to hold the meeting this week at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Arab League Ambassador Mohannad Aklouk submitted a memorandum earlier today, requesting to hold an emergency meeting in an extraordinary session at the earliest possible date.Aklouk indicated in a statement that “the request he submitted to the Arab League came to discuss ways of political action at the Arab and international levels to stop the Israeli aggression, hold its perpetra
tors accountable, provide international protection for the Palestinian people, and achieve peace and security based on international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.”
