Palestinian President Calls for End to Occupation for Regional Security and Peace

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in a meeting with Latvian President Edgars Rinkevic on Monday, stated that regional security and peace can only be achieved by ending the Israeli occupation of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Abbas emphasized his opposition to military solutions in Gaza and Israeli plans to separate Gaza Strip from the occupied West Bank or to reoccupy the enclave.

According to Jordan News Agency, an immediate cessation of the Israeli war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank is essential. He called for allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza and halting Jewish settler aggression against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Abbas also strongly opposed the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, and stressed the necessity of releasing Palestinian funds held by the Israeli government.

The meeting with President Rinkevic underscored the Palestinian leadership’s commitment to a peaceful resolution and the importance of international support in achieving this goal.
