PM witnesses inking contract of operating, managing Sokhna-Matrouh express train

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli witnessed on Tuesday 8/11/2022 the signing of a contract for managing and operating the first line of the express train (Ain Sokhna/Alamein/Matrouh) with a consortium of Deutsche Bahn and Elsewedy Electric, renewable once for 15 years.

The signing ceremony was attended by Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir and German Ambassador in Cairo Frank Hartmann. The contract was signed by National Authority for Tunnels Sherif Hassan, CEO of Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting Niko Warbanoff, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Elsewedy Electric.

Madbouli pointed out that the contract, during COP27, embodies the comprehensive plan, directed by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to expand the establishment of sustainable green transport networks.

Meanwhile, Wazir noted that the German company will manage the three lines of the express train with the employment of Egyptian labor at a percentage of 90%.

Warbanoff, for his part, expressed his happiness for managing and operating Egypt’s express train system, adding Deutsche Bahn will train Egyptian engineers and technicians.

The 22-station line will link the city of Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea and the cities of Alexandria, Alamein, and Matrouh on the Mediterranean with a total length of 660 kilometers.
