President Pasechnik thanks Syria for its decision to recognize republics of Lugansk and Donetsk

President of the Lugansk People’s Republic Leonid Pasechnik has thanked Syria for its decision to recognize the republics of Luhansk and Donetsk, indicating that this step would contribute to the mutual development of markets and accelerate building relations in many fields.

“The intention of the Syrian Arab Republic to recognize the sovereignty and independence of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics was received by the residents of the Lugansk region with special joy… The recognition of our independence by another country would open new horizons for cooperation on a new world level and would accelerate building relations in many walks of life, in addition to contributing to the mutual development of new markets,” Pasechnik wrote on his Telegram channel.

Pasechnik added that the Syrian people know more than any other people the meaning of living near militants and extremists, adding, “On behalf of the people of the Lugansk People’s Republic, I would like to sincerely thank the Syrian Arab Republic and President Bashar al-Assad for this bold and responsible political gesture.”

Earlier on Wednesday, an official source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement to SANA that in an embodiment of the common will and the desire to establish relations in all fields, the Syrian Arab Republic decided to recognize the independence and sovereignty of both the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic.
