President of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan Tuesday awarded certificates to researchers who delivered workshops and implemented projects to support sustainable development. According to a statement, the certificate awarding ceremony was part of celebrations on the achievements of the UK-supported Newton-Khalidi Fund (NKF) / Researchers Links Workshop. Organised by the British Council in Jordan, the RSS and the Higher Council for Science and Technology, the celebrations included an “Expo” showcase of the projects and panel discussions focusing on the Jordanian research strategy. Princess Sumaya commended the projects’ achievements and said she she is “proud” that RSS was an early supporter of the NKF, the statement reads. Princess Sumaya affirmed the depth of the Jordanian-British relations, as the UK ranks third in the table of Jordan’s research collaboration partners, adding that NKF represents the first bilateral science and innovation partnership between the UK and Jordan. “We gather to formulate a ‘roadmap’ for an enhanced scientific research and innovation agenda for Jordan. This vital roadmap will be shaped by contributions from across the higher hducation sector in Jordan and the UK and from a range of stakeholders from academia, industry, government and civil society”, she added. Princess Sumaya also marked the legacy of Dr Usama al-Khalidi, “who had nurtured and inspired so many students and young scientists during his lifetime.” UK Ambassador Bridget Brind said, “The Researcher Links Workshops Programme has brought together UK and Jordanian expertise to build the capacity of early career researchers, and it is great to see how some of these connections have developed into longer-term scientific partnerships benefiting both sides.”
